Christina and I at the show.Katy Perry hit the music world by storm with her "I Kissed a Girl” single making the impression she was a one-hit wonder. Although Perry’s popularity grew from her cherry chap stick, it didn’t seem like it would be enough to keep her as a permanent fixture on the music charts. Evidently it’s all not just a gimmick; she really is talented, goofy, abrupt and naturally good looking. She already hit the number one spot on Billboard’s Top 100 and if you attend one of her concerts you will see exactly what I mean.
Perry’s obnoxious stage behavior coincidentally makes her that much more likeable. Recently she sold out three consecutive dates at The Fillmore in Manhattan the first week of April. This was the solo artist’s first headlining tour known as the HELLO KATY TOUR in support of her 2008 release “One of the Boys.”
Arriving minutes before taking the stage, she was bubbly and excited while greeting paparazzi waiting for her by the back door. Moments later she stormed the stage in her purple moon-man-like body suit complete with a diamond sparkly microphone stand. She ripped to shreds a Hello Kitty pillow and welcomed her fans to her show. A giant inflatable kitten, fruit and lipstick accompanied her onstage for the hour and a half set.
Perry sang almost every song from her debut album and made a point to thank her label Capitol Records for attending her performance, as well as Z100 who was promoting the show. In between songs, she took a stab at the male race and the heartbreak they cause us girls. “Boys always want the milk but don’t want to buy the cow! You see, as girls we can be the sweetest things but when a guy breaks our heart he will immediately get the spawn of the devil period bestowed upon him, just the way it goes.”
During her brief encore her wardrobe change consisted of a pink sparkly leopard leotard complete with a full on tail. Again, not only did she pull off the vocals but every girl in the place was wondering where they could get that outfit from!
Next Perry took the giant red lipstick and “kissed” the entire front row with it before ending the show with her claim to fame single.
